Camping Fields

Bowley International Scout Centre has many areas to suit all the different needs of groups camping, whether you want a nice secluded pitch, or a more central lively location within easy reach of the site facilities and activities. 

Altar fire barrels are available to the rear of our fieldcraft shed – feel free to borrow the barrels and grills, but please dispose of your ashes responsibly in the wild areas on the edges of our fields and return the barrels and grills to the storage area on departure. The barrels are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

All of our camping is available year-round, on weekends, holidays, and during the week. Over the winter period (November to April) some areas of the site may be unavailable as we switch off our water supply to prevent bursts.

Do you offer altar fires?

Altar fire barrels are available outside the Den – feel free to borrow the barrels and grills, but please dispose of your ashes responsibly, and return the barrels and grills to the storage area on departure.

Arthur's Field

Bowley Field is an idyllic setting at the lower end of the site.  A large, flat, open field perfect for large groups or activities, it is away from the hustle and bustle of the main area of the site, but only a short walk to all the activities, reception and Trader.

Bowley Field is suitable for approx. 180-200 campers on six pitches.

Facilities include;

  • Nearby water taps
  • We have a very limited supply of wood for fires on our woodpile near to the Sports Barn. Please only take what you need and return any unused wood at the end of your stay. Fallen wood across the site may be collected but under no circumstances must you fell any trees / cut down branches on site. We advise that you make arrangements to source your own wood, prior to your stay and either bring it with you or arrange to have it delivered to site to guarantee you can have fires. Please note, you cannot burn any pallet wood on site.   
  • Toilets immediately adjoining Bowley Field
  • Disabled vehicle access to the edge of the field displaying a permt. All other vehicles are allowed by prior agreement and issuance of a site permit.

We ask that you do not drive cars or other vehicles on to the field.  There is a hard standing parking area on the right as you enter Bowley Field – please keep all vehicles here or on the main car park.

There is a public footpath that leaves Bowley in Bowley Field, travelling east or west along the river.  This can form part of a great night hike for your group, with a circular route towards Whalley and back to the top of the campsite.  Ask at reception for more details. 

 

Located at the top of Bowley International Scout Centre, the field has a good mixture of facilities. 
Little Bowley and Bowley Burrows are located in the Training Field and provide more of an “equipped” option for camping. 
This field is good for medium sized groups, as well as Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, with showers, toilets and a washing up area towards the bottom of the field. 
Scott Cabin can also be found in the Training Field. If you take this option, we provide a wooden cabin which contains a sink, microwave, toaster and a fridge/freezer.  This may well replace the requirement for your normal mess tent with regards to cooking. Please note that you will need to bring your own stoves, cooking and eating utensils and crockery. There are three tables and twelve chairs that come with Scott Cabin. 
Sleeping is not permitted in Scott Cabin and you will need to bring your own tents for the whole group.

There is ample car parking available towards the bottom end of the Training Field on the hard standing ground – please keep all vehicles here or on the main car park.  We ask that customers do not drive any vehicles on to the camping fields.

Centrally placed, the Main Camping Field is perfect for many different styles of camping; whether you have small or large group camps, Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions, or large events with central facilities. The majority of the field is flat but has quite a few tree areas around which are suitable to set up a bushcraft-style area. Being centrally placed you will have immediate access to the toilets and showers.  The pitches are only short walks to all activities and amenities on site.

The Main Camping Field has space for around 180-200 campers on six pitches.

  • Toilet blocks at the top and bottom of the field
  • Showers at the top of the field
  • Water taps around the field

There is ample car parking available between the All Weather Activity centre and the Pond immediately before reaching the Main Camping Field – please keep all vehicles here or on the main car park.  We ask that customers do not drive any vehicles on to the camping fields.

Arthur’s Field is very large camping field at the lower end of the site.  A large open field perfect for large groups or activities, it is away from the hustle and bustle of the main area of the site, but only a short walk to all the activities, reception and Trader.

Arthur’s Field is suitable for approx. 250-300 campers on seven pitches.

 

Facilities include

  • Water taps
  • Wood available to buy on site/or can be sourced off site
    No pallet Wood allowed on site for burning.
  • Toilet block very close to Arthur’s Field
  • There is also a bushcraft area that may be booked
